current 50mA (while charging 4 cells) then it says... Note NEXcell & GP NiMH battery cells can be continuously overcharged a 0.1C rate for 1 year without any leakage or deformation or damage. |

| Question #2: I'm just a little confused .... I bought a Quest charger and 4 NiMH batteries (1200mAh) when I bought my Olympus D-340L. The Quest unit says you can store the batteries in the charger after reaching full charge. But the batteries get really warm - I'm not sure how this affects battery life. |

I am not an electrician and its been over 30 years since physics class. What relationship does 50mA have to 0.1C???? |

#1: 0.1C in non technical terms is 1/10 of the batteries capacity . For instance if you are charging a 1300 mAH battery, 1/10 of its' capacity is 130mAH. This is the factory recommended charge rate for NiMH batteries unless you are using a smart charger such as the MH-C777 Fast Charger. The charge rate should be 130mA or less to prevent battery damage and for the utmost safety. As long as you continue to charge at a rate of 1/10 ( 0.1C ) or less of the batteries capacity , no damage will be caused to the battery. Since 50 mA is well below this rate there should be not be any problems. Why the 50 mA rate on the MAHA MH-2A4 ? Well this is why this charger is also great for continuos charging of AAA size batteries also.. Since their capacity is 550mAH, the 50mA charge rate is below the 1/10 ( 0.1C ) charge rate. |

ordered a MAHA MH-2A4 battery charger with 4 NEXcell batteries
(1300mAh). The brochure with the MAHA unit specifically says you have to
take them out after 26-28 hrs., this is after being fully discharged ...
but what about when you just want to top them off .. how long do you
leave them in then? The LED's on both units stay on forever even
after the batteries are fully charged. Are there any
"intelligent" charger units out there that monitor temperature
and charge? |

#2: Batteries usually will get warm during charges, but they should never get very warm or hot to the touch. If your Nimh batteries are getting hot to the touch or in this case " very warm" someting is not right and your batteries are going to be damaged or their useful life is going to be severly shortend if you continue to charge them with a defective or overcharging unit. Now concerning your question about the MAHA MH-2A4 battery charger. You can leave your batteries in the MH-2A4 charger until you are ready to use them and you may top them off at any time. As for smart chargers we currently offer the MAHA MH-C777 Rapid Charger and then for timed chargers we have the GB KB-34PUL 5 Hour Charger . We also will have a new charger that will be available very soon that has Smart Charger Technology above and beyond the call of duty. Stay tuned...... |
